16 Breathtaking Places In France To Connect With Wildlife

We all know France for its fancy cuisine and iconic landmarks (ahem, I’m looking at you, Eiffel Tower), but did you know that this charming country has some seriously cool spots to witness wildlife in action? Yep, forget about the glitz and glam, because we’re diving into nature’s very own reality show.

I’m talking about majestic creatures strutting their stuff in their natural habitats, from the elusive wolves prowling through dense forests to the graceful flamingos flaunting their feathers. Plus, one of my favorites, the European badger…though I suspect you won’t catch it sipping tea.

So, if you’re ready to embark on a wildlife safari like no other, join me as we explore some of the best places across France to catch a glimpse of wildlife’s greatest hits. Get your camera ready – because it’s time to go wild in France.

Wolves in France? Oh yes. Mercantour National Park is one of the rare places where these elusive predators have naturally returned. Set in the French Alps, this park’s rugged peaks and lush valleys feel like a wildlife movie set – but fancier.

If you’re lucky (and quiet…shhh), you might also see chamois, marmots, and golden eagles soaring overhead. Don’t forget your binoculars. Or a wolf whistle…just kidding; I don’t recommend that.

Verdon Regional Natural Park is home to otters, vultures, and a variety of bird species that basically belong on your favorite wildlife social feed. Hike the trails, or rent a kayak to spot wildlife with a side of turquoise waters. Bonus points if you snap a selfie with a circling griffon vulture in the background.

Stunning wide lakes, flamingos doing the most dramatic poses, and white horses galloping through marshy waters like some sort of equestrian fairy tale – that’s Camargue Regional Natural Park.

Camargue’s legendary white horses are one of the oldest breeds in the world – which probably makes them cooler than your average horse. Throw in black bulls and countless bird species, and you’ve got yourself a wildlife lover’s paradise.

Fontainebleau Forest

Okay, this one’s less about wild animals and more about wild inspiration. Fontainebleau Forest is so stunning; it had Impressionist painters staring at it like a Renaissance version of Netflix.

Among the oak trees and giant boulders, you might spot deer, boars, or even birds that seem to know they’re posing for your perfect shot. Embracing your ancestry? Bring your easel and paints. Or, if you skipped art school – a nice camera will do.
